Body Shots and Armbars: Brummett vs. Mosqueda Steals the Show in Crossville at XFA Fight Night 57/6/2025 Crossville, TN – The junior amateur MMA showdown between London Martial Arts’ Kayla Brummett (1-0) and Lilly Mosqueda (debut; 1-0 kickboxing) of Team Phoenix lived up to the hype and more, as the two rising stars collided in a high-paced 120-pound battle at the National Guard Armory during XFA Fight Night 5. From the opening bell, Brummett looked to impose her striking with crisp body kicks. However, it was the second kick that proved to be a turning point early, as Mosqueda caught it clean and turned it into a takedown. On the ground, Brummett wasted no time, threatening with a flurry of submission attempts and locking in a deep armbar that had the crowd on edge. Mosqueda showed incredible composure and flexibility, escaping the submission in a moment that showcased her grit and athleticism. Following the escape, Mosqueda forced the stand-up and immediately turned up the heat, unleashing a relentless series of body shots. Her aggression paid off, visibly wearing Brummett down and even dropping her with a punishing shot late in the first round. While Brummett attempted to slow the pace and keep the fight grounded, referee intervention brought the fight back to the feet, ending a dominant first round in favor of Mosqueda.
Round two began with both fighters pushing the pace. Brummett tried to use her length and range, while Mosqueda bulldozed forward, digging to the body with more punishing strikes that clearly took their toll. Yet Brummett remained composed, using her clinch to pull guard and transition beautifully into mount. From there, she expertly set up another armbar—this time securing the tap and earning her second amateur MMA victory. It was an outstanding performance from both young athletes. Mosqueda showed heart, toughness, and vicious body work in her debut, while Brummett displayed composure under fire and slick jiu-jitsu to secure the finish. With performances like this, the future of the women’s amateur ranks in XFA looks incredibly bright. XFA continues to cement itself as a proving ground for the next generation of MMA talent, and this bout was a shining example of what’s to come.
