Crossville, TN - The amateur flyweight division was front and center during the feature bout of XFA Fight Night 5 as two undefeated prospects put their records—and the inaugural XFA Flyweight Championship—on the line… almost. Originally slated as a title fight, the stakes changed at weigh-ins when Moses Lee (2-0, Torch MMA & Fitness) came in five pounds over the 125-lb limit. The infraction cost him a two-point penalty to start the bout and stripped him of eligibility to win the title. Calogio Torres (1-0, Phoenix MMA & Fitness), who made weight, remained the only fighter eligible to claim championship gold. From the opening bell, the bout lived up to expectations. Both men showcased sharp technique early, with Lee pressing forward and Torres maintaining a clean, composed striking approach. Lee caught a kick midway through the round and scored a takedown, but Torres remained calm on his back, nullifying Lee’s offense and making the ground exchanges difficult. Torres looked comfortable off his back, showing solid awareness and composure.
Once back on the feet, Torres briefly initiated pressure against the cage before Lee reversed position and executed a trip takedown. Again, Torres’ defense was on full display, consistently making Lee work for every inch on the mat. Much of the round played out with Torres defending from his back while Lee peppered leg kicks and sought positional control. The round ended with Lee in side control, but without landing any significant damage. In round two, both fighters resumed a patient, technical exchange. After trading kicks, Lee once again caught a kick and turned it into a takedown—this time immediately transitioning to the back and landing steady ground-and-pound. Torres defended well and eventually reversed the position to stand back up, only to be taken down again moments later. Lee again found the back and scored short strikes, but Torres continued to defend intelligently. The round closed with Lee in control on top, but Torres never gave up position easily. Round three saw both fighters come out aggressive, with Lee pushing the pace and using the cage to secure another trip takedown. Torres scrambled up, but Lee capitalized with a suplex and quickly transitioned to mount. From there, he unloaded a final barrage of ground-and-pound that forced the referee to stop the fight, giving Lee the TKO victory. Despite the impressive win, Lee’s weight miss prevented him from claiming the XFA title. Torres, now 1-1, showed tremendous toughness, defensive skill, and technical awareness throughout the fight. Lee moves to 3-0, but the XFA Amateur Flyweight Championship remains vacant—for now.
