![]() CROSSVILLE, TN — In a night filled with excitement at XFA 01, one of the most memorable moments came from a grappling match that wasn’t even scheduled — until just minutes before showtime. Originally, Crossville MMA’s Dylan Dhuivetter was set to face Jonah Covington, but Covington abruptly ghosted the promotion just days before the event, leaving Dhuivetter without an opponent. Still, in true warrior spirit, Dylan showed up at the National Guard Armory ready to compete — and more importantly, to support his Crossville MMA teammates. Meanwhile, Daniel Wilson of Gracie Barra Murfreesboro had no plans to compete that night. He was simply at the event to help corner his teammate Lalo Balderrama. But when word got out that Dhuivetter needed an opponent — and the PPV clock was ticking — Wilson didn't hesitate. With barely ten minutes before XFA 01 went live, Wilson agreed to step onto the mats once again.
The match was a gritty, fast-paced affair, highlighting the technical skill and toughness of both athletes. Wilson showcased the slick, technical grappling that Gracie Barra is renowned for, eventually securing the triangle choke victory and improving to 2-0 in XFA grappling matches. His ability to stay composed and tactical under short notice was a testament to his high-level training and mindset. As for Dhuivetter, his performance further cemented his legacy within the XFA ranks. A fixture of the promotion since its inception, Dylan has competed at every XFA event to date, taking on over half a dozen matches across multiple cards. His loyalty to the sport, his team, and the XFA organization continues to earn him respect from fans and fighters alike. This was not the first time either athlete had stepped in on mere hours’ notice. Both Wilson and Dhuivetter had taken short-notice grappling matches back at XFA LIVE 02 in February in Cookeville, TN, each battling different opponents. Their repeated willingness to rise to the occasion underlines why they are so highly regarded in the XFA community. Though Wilson added another win to his record, there were no losers in this contest — only two competitors who proved once again that when opportunity knocks, real fighters answer.
